Paint, draw, sculpt, weave, knit etc.; Where does one go from here?...
As long as I remember I have been drawn to shapes of colours and textures the joy of making marks on paper! From crayon to creator it has been quite a ride! I never imagined my life would be consumed by the art itchand that one day I could share this journey with others.
Watercolour in particular captured my heart. There is magic in the way it has its own life; moving in ways unsuspected. People told me how unforgiving and hard watercolour was to work with. It was my curiosity and goal to understand this medium. The challenge was on! This didn’t stop me. I took classes, did research and practiced as often as life would allow. I was successful in our small town selling work and entering shows. I taught classes...as I grew I added watercolour into mixed media bringing the two together on a parallel journey. This gave me the freedom to explore again. I layered, paper, pens, pastel, ink anything I could get my hands, sculpting my unique voice into the surface. I discovered a new world of creative play!
Through teaching classes I get to guide others to the same sense of wonder.
Watercolour taught me patience and trust of myself and the medium. The interplay of pigment moving in the water, layering up to darks; I still rely on when starting a piece.
Mixed media on the other hand is my experimental playground....
Creatively paint with me! A safe place to learn watercolour and mixed media and the joy of creating together!

In the Beginning:
It starts with a mark...a line sometimes joining another going in opposite directions... creating a shape. Sometimes these are recognizable sometimes they are your feelings. They can be colourful, monotone, or black and white. No matter how you interpret, this is you...YOUR art. Art starts with your action, your emotion...make a mark, a line, throw down paint...ART evolves through as you. In a sense this is a rebirth....your beginning, of finding yourself creatively.
Look at the world around you...it consists of line, shape and colour. Look and see how one line or shape connects to the next. Shapes are only circles, triangles, squares or variations of these. Try your hand and discover your creativity. Begin with something you are interested in. Start slow and really, really look, connect to your subject. Don’t make it complicated, just take one piece of the picture or subject and start from there. Connecting one line to another, creating shape, see how they join into a shape; and so on. At first think black and white don’t confuse yourself with colour, you can always enhance your piece later. Don’t be concerned with others opinions; this is YOU... You are original, one of a kind; like your art creations. No one else can do what you do. Adapt as you go. Practice, and be patient and kind to yourself. Feel the line as you draw. Draw as you see and feel the forms, coordinate seeing with your hand movement to the paper. By the way there are no mistakes in art!
Intimidated...doodling is a great expression a place to start. A different approach using your senses your feelings. Reaction is line to line, shape to shape. Sometimes you connect to an area and make a design from it or a small story. A great place to practice line and mark making. Be free, go with the flow...this is yourimagination at work.
With any art with practice your art grows with you. Practice daily draw something on a daily basis and keep your work to see your progression. You will be amazed at how far you will go.
Be patient and playful.. have fun after all its only paper!
