About the Artist

Jo-Anne Sachs Ross - Biography

Jo-Anne Sachs Ross; Canadian Visual Artist

Jo-Anne Sachs Ross is a Canadian born visual artist whose work blends impressionistic sensibilities with the spontaneity of mixed media and collage. Based in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, her art is inspired by the natural beauty surrounding her-coastal waters, towering forests, majestic mountains and the ever-changing oceanic landscape. She creatively begins with colours and textures; layering materials, uninfluenced by any one thing. She proceeds intuitively until a focus comes into view subconsciously and proceeds to incorporate personal thoughts and ideas into her creative expression. Earlier work was a discovery of nature, semi-realistic giving a basis to her expression of today.

She began her explorations in pencil and watercolour developing a keen sensitivity to shapes, colours and textures focusing on marine life and the delicate forms of shells. She has transitioned into mixed media and collage, exploring forms, lines and texture. It is an organic process connecting to her subconscious, executing ideas to ebb and flow.

Jo-Anne holds a diploma in art and design and has pursued university studies in various media. Her artistic development continues with in-person, on-line workshops and personal research. Exhibiting locally, in the Comox Valley and surrounding area, she had a solo show in 2017 and has received honourable mentions for artistic achievements; including being internationally recognized by the Luxembourg Museum in 2017 and 2023.

Grounded in a passion for nature and a lifelong curiosity for creative expression, Jo-Anne's work invites viewers to experience her creative expressions with curiosity; to involve themselves within the reflection of her expression of the powerful beauty of the world around her.
